The lights on the bridge was low, the quiet hum of the ship was more apparent than the small chirps and signal beeps of the consoles. It was very early in the morning, somewhere around 2:30 am and the bridge officer on duty was just at the operations station reading a department check in report. Even though all things were set, on nights like tonight Vigo could not acquire the rest he clearly knew he needed. He exited his ready room and acknowledged the officer as he glided past him and into the lift towards the aft of the bridge.
As the doors whooshed closed, he felt the heaviness in his eyes that finally suggested an exhaustion worthy of falling asleep. “Deck 2.” The computer chirped and swiftly the lift fell a deck. As always, the air on the opposite side of the lift was much cooler and it made him feel a slight shudder. He started walking, left foot first. He left and continued his way towards home. It came much more suddenly as his mind was much more tired than he thought.
